Camps – Overnight and Day

Join the NSCD for our adventurous multi-day camps in the beautiful Rocky Mountains to experience horseback riding, whitewater rafting, hiking, biking, indoor rock climbing, Winter Park resort activities and more all while making new friends. One of the main purposes of summer camp is to have fun participating in safely designed activities, appropriate for a wide-range of ability levels. Our uniquely designed camps utilize specific approaches that meat the needs of variety of individuals with special needs. Camps fill up quickly, so be sure to make reservations early.

JUNE Camps and Programs

Alpine Ski Race Camp for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities – Mt. Hood, OR

Alpine skiers with intellectual disabilities who already race or who aspire to join the circuit are invited to this exciting on-snow training camp hosted by the NSCD at Timberline Ski Area on spectacular Mt. Hood in Oregon. The fun week-long session will provide the opportunity for participants to increase their skill levels on skis and in the course, engage in social activities with other participants and coaches, and learn more about applying these skills to their daily lives. Daily schedules include meals together, morning on-snow ski sessions, afternoon off-snow group activities, and early evening gatherings. Participants must be independent in daily living skills, be able to safely ski blue rated terrain using parallel turns, and be able to participate in group activities. Summer Woods Adventure Camp 1
for Adults with Developmental Disability

SummerWoodsDD_webThis four-day camp for adults (18+) promotes independence and camaraderie. Laugh and learn while rafting, hiking, biking and camping. Campers are introduced to new skills and activities in a precise and consistent manner by highly trained staff. *Bring a buddy and receive $25 off.

Woods Camp I  (Non-accessible cabin at High Lonesome Hut)

Ages:

Summer Sports Sampler Camp

This year the NSCD will be offering two half day camps to accommodate the different disabilities of our athletes. We believe that through individual and team sports our athletes are able to learn important lessons about themselves and others as well as increasing their overall fitness and quality of lift. Each day will consist of two different sports and will be taught by local coaches with specialized experience in each sport.

Morning Camp: Physical Disabilities

This half day camp is for people with physical disabilities who want to experience, learn and explore the world of sports. During this camp athletes will participate in a variety a different sports including: soccer, hockey, football, fencing, boxing, lacrosse, golf and rugby.

This very special camp is designed for our friends with significant/profound disabilities but who are ready for some fun! We will explore the wilderness, create art, dance and play all kinds of sports. All of our senses will be sparked in this specially designed and exciting camp. At the NSCD we believe that through the personal challenge and enriching atmosphere of the outdoors participants can learn important lessons about themselves and other as well as increasing their overall fitness and quality of life. *Note: Personal care provider must be supplied by the participant.

Therapeutic Horseback Riding Camp 1

Love horses? Join us at the riding center for three day camp that includes horseback riding, cookouts, campfires and tent camping at the riding center. Campers will learn to lead, groom, tack and ride a horse.

Adventure Sampler Camps

These adventure camps are designed to give athletes with disabilities the ability to experience new and exciting adventures activities outdoors. During camp, athletes will explore the Front-Range through a variety of outdoor activities including: outdoor rock climbing, white water paddling, flat water paddling and sailing. At the NSCD we believe that through the personal challenge and enriching atmosphere of the outdoors participants can learn important lessons about themselves and other as well as increasing their overall fitness and quality of life.

The NSCD will provide transportation to the outdoor venue of the day from Sport Authority Field at Mile High.

Therapeutic Horseback Riding Camp 2

This four-day camp is ideal for beginner or intermediate riders. Campers take part in grooming, feeding and tacking. New skills learned while in the area will be enhanced while out on daily trail rides. Spend two nights tent camping at the riding center. Enjoying cookout and campfires. The final night of camp will be spent at High Lonesome Hut. **Max rider weight is 200 lbs.

Women’s Weekend Camp for Adults with Physical Disabilities

Day activities may include whitewater rafting, rock climbing, biking and hiking as part of the fun. Evenings will be spent sharing dinner and activities. You bring the spirit of adventure and we’ll provide everything else, including an experienced and fun female staff.
