Summer Program Internship


This internship offers real-world experience across a variety of adaptive sports and recreational therapy settings. Designed for college students seeking academic credit, internships can be tailored to meet individual university requirements. Positions are available during the Summer Semester, and schedules may include weekends and evenings.

Interns commit to 560 hours over 14 weeks under the supervision of a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), meeting all NCTRC requirements along the way.

The program is non-clinical and community-based, centered around adaptive outdoor recreation, with opportunities in mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, water sports, and other summer adventure activities. All required training and equipment are provided.

Interns will:

  • Conduct assessments and create treatment plans
  • Lead individual and group activities
  • Complete documentation and make goal-based recommendations
  • Work on administrative tasks such as program planning and customer service

You’ll gain direct experience with participants of all ages and a wide range of diagnoses, developing valuable skills in adaptive recreation and therapeutic programming.
