Special Olympics Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding, & Snowshoeing for Athletes with Intellectual Disabilities
The Grand County Blizzards are a Special Olympics ski and snowboard team based in Winter Park, Colorado, and proudly supported by the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD). The Blizzards give athletes the opportunity to build skiing and riding skills, grow confidence, be part of a supportive team, and compete in Special Olympics races.
Participant Info:
- Ages 8+ (at the start of the season)
- Athletes must have a developmental and intellectual disability diagnosis
- Athletes must be able to ski independently on green runs without assistance
- Athletes compete in Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding, and Snowshoeing
- Independent self-care or caregiver support is required
Practice Dates & Times:
- Sundays | January 3rd, January 10th, January 24th, and February 7th | 9:00am – 3:00pm
Competitions:
- Regional Competition: Eldora Mountain | Beginning of February (Exact dates coming soon)
- State Winter Games: Copper Mountain | End of February (Exact dates coming soon)
