Meet Rainah — a bright 14-year-old who has been skiing and horseback riding with the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) for eight years and counting.
Rainah is neurodivergent and lives with a rare genetic disorder, but what shines most is the happiness and strength she’s discovered in the outdoors.
Before finding the NSCD, her mom tried signing Rainah up for numerous other camps and outdoor programs that weren’t adaptive, but the calls always came: “Come pick up your child, this isn’t working.”
When Rainah and her family found NSCD’s adaptive programs, everything changed.
Calls to her mom shifted from moments of worry to messages of joy. Our staff and volunteers provided enthusiastic encouragement and unwavering belief in her abilities.
As for Rainah, she now comes off the slopes and trails smiling, confident, and supported. “As a parent, I feel supported too,” her mom shared.
