Adaptive Ski School: Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding, Ski Bike and Nordic Ski

The NSCD adaptive ski school offers a variety of private and group lessons in adaptive alpine skiing, snowboarding, ski biking, Nordic skiing and snowshoeing. Private Daily Lessons

At the NSCD, we provide private lessons with highly trained adaptive instructors. Lessons are tailored to meet the needs or goals of each individual participant. Lessons are available for two-track, three-track, four-track, slider ski, ski bike, mono-ski, bi-ski and snowboard. Individual, Family and Group lessons are available.

 *Sit Ski only – Maximum weight is 200 lbs.

Individual lessons provide one on one instruction for a participant with a NSCD instructor.

Family lessons provide an opportunity for a parent or adult to learn proper techniques for assisting the family member with special needs while on the slopes. The family member must be a proficient and independent skier with a higher level of ski or snowboard ability than the participant. One adult member with the participant maximum.

At the NSCD, we also offer a sensory-friendly alternative to downhill skiing. We can accommodate stand and sit skiers with our cross-county ski and snowshoe programs. Family lessons are also available.

Equipment Fitting Appointments

An equipment fitting appointment is required for any equipment rental. If possible, book your equipment fitting appointment the day before you want to use the equipment. Equipment rentals are subject to equipment availability. NSCD lessons take priority over equipment rentals. All equipment rentals must be paid in full at the time of the rental. A credit card deposit is also required for damaged, lost or stolen equipment. The replacement value of the equipment will be charged if the equipment is lost, stolen or severely damaged.

Grand County Special Olympics

SO_webJoin the Grand County Special Olympics Team and have fun training for alpine ski or snowboard and cross-country or snowshoe racing. Have fun learning new ski racing techniques, running the gates at the practice course and skiing with teammates. Athletes times will be recorded at practice and submitted to Special Olympics. Participants must have their own equipment and be able to meet at the base of the Arrow Lift.

 *Sit Ski only – Maximum weight is 200 lbs.

Athletes must register with the NSCD to compete.

Training Locations: Winter Park Resort (alpine), Devils Thumb Ranch (nordic)

Training Dates:
January 13th, 20th, and 27th, 2023
February 3rd and 10th, 2023

Regional Competition: February 13th at Eldora
State Competition: March 4th and 5th at Copper Mountain
Time: 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Price:
$630 for alpine (7 sessions)
$385 for nordic (7 sessions)

Includes: Coaching, racecourse access, equipment and lift ticket/ski pass

Race Camp for Special Olympics

Do you want to ski or snowboard with the NSCD but need a ride? Consider joining our Thursday Access Program for adult individuals. Space is limited and registration is required. Pick up location information will be provided when you register.

Alpine Ski and Snowboard for Groups
Nordic Ski and Snowshoe for Groups

Do you have a group that wants to come learn how to ski, ride, snowshoe or Nordic ski together? Groups of five or more are welcome to join the NSCD for our weekly group programs. We offer two sessions over the winter, and each session is 5 weeks long. Space is limited and these programs fill up fast. All lessons include instruction, all equipment needed and lift ticket(s).

 *Sit Ski only – Maximum weight is 200 lbs.

Not open to individual reservations. Only open to groups of 5 or more. 

Location: Winter Park Resort, CO (Alpine Ski and Snowboard) | Devils Thumb Ranch, CO (Nordic Ski and Snowshoe)

Friday Fun Club

Bridge Program

The NSCD Bridge Program is designed to assist an athlete’s transition from recreational skiing to race training in the NSCD Competition Program with coaching from past Paralympic athletes. Athletes receive support in a development program that will potentially feed the NSCD and U.S. Adaptive Ski or Snowboard Teams. Instructors assist an athlete’s transition to full independence so they may enjoy the hill with their loved ones.
